Everything on the fifty acres

Fifty Acres is a first-person homestead sim with real numbers under the hood: 2025–26 prices, climate normals for northeastern Pennsylvania, and power counted in kilowatt-hours. Here's what's in the game today.

01 · The land

Fifty acres of real woods

Your homestead starts as dense forest on a hillside above a gravel county road: sugar maple, red oak, black cherry, white ash, eastern hemlock and white pine, with brush underneath, springs marked by ferns, and snags that come down on their own. Clear it by hand, with a crew, or with machines.

Clear it your way

Fell trees yourself, hire a crew, or bring in machines. Brush cutters, a mulcher and a stump grinder for the rest.

Stumps are a choice

Grind them, dig them out, or leave them to rot. Brush piles and limbs are yours to deal with too.

Ground work

An excavator and a tractor for driveways, pads and trenches. Rentals when you don't want to own one.

02 · Firewood & lumber

Warms you three times

Fell, then buck the trunk at the paint marks, carry the logs and rounds, split them by maul, axe or a log splitter you set down anywhere, and stack real woodstacks. Wood dries over time and soaks up rain if you leave it out.

Four sawmill tiers

From a chainsaw mill you drag through the log to a fully automated mill. Every tier cuts real lumber you can build with.

Stacks, ricks and a woodshed

Carry splits in your arms or a truck bed and stack them where you want. Sell a cord to Hank in town.

Bonfires

Stack two or more pallets and light them. More pallets make a bigger, longer fire that warms you and lights the night. Don't stand in it.

03 · Building

From plans to a roof over your head

Buy plans and build sheds, barns, pole barns, a barndominium or cabins piece by piece, with guided ghost boards and hammer and screw animations. Or hire a crew. Log cabins go up log by log on piers or a poured pad.

Walk-in houses

Glass windows, doors, and furniture you buy, build or hand to a decorator. Rearrange it however you like.

A stove to tend

A real woodstove fire you feed and manage. Let it go out on a January night and you'll know.

Sell what you've outgrown

Take down or sell the tent once the house is livable, and the racks, ricks, woodshed, splitter and chopping block when you're done with them.

04 · Power, heat & water

Off the grid, on purpose

Solar panels, an inverter and batteries, a generator for the gray weeks, all counted in real kilowatt-hours. Heat comes from wood you cut. Water comes from jugs, then a well, a tank and pipes that can freeze.

In-game recording

Your body counts

Health, hunger and thirst. Collapse at 5% health and it's a hospital bill and a ride home.

Five backstories

Burned-out developer, ER nurse, union carpenter, line cook, or (in Cozy) lottery winner. Each earns money differently.

Chores your way

Hands-on (carry every bag, feed the stove), Assisted, or Easy, with per-chore overrides.

05 · Farming

Fifty-four crops, one short season

Garden beds and fields tilled by hand or tractor, orchards, beehives and maple sugaring. A greenhouse with climate control stretches the season, and a 115-foot geodome grows cocoa into chocolate.

Eleven implements

Plow, disc, tiller, seeder, cultivator, brush hog, hay mower, rake, round baler, box blade and a post-hole auger. The backhoe comes with the tractor.

Greenhouse & dome

Seed, plant, water, manage the climate and harvest year-round.

Sell the surplus

Marge at the General Store buys eggs, milk, produce, honey and preserves.

06 · Animals

Hens first. Then everybody else.

Chickens need physical feed bags, water and a coop; eggs get collected, stored, and broken if you run. Then there are fourteen livestock species, the fences and pens to hold them, and the predators that want them.

Fourteen species

Pastures, pens and barns for a real herd, with feeding, milking and slaughter.

Guinea-hen alarms

Predators come at night. Guinea hens raise the alarm, loudly.

Bo

Walt's dog. "Half beagle, half couch. He's retired too."

07 · Food

Put it up before it goes off

Raw meat and fish spoil in about half a day unless they're cold (a freezer, a fridge, a cold day outside) or smoked. A smokehouse takes up to 25 lb over about six hours on firewood or hickory chips, and smoked meat keeps for weeks on a shelf.

Smokehouse

Build it from $12 plans or have one set up for $1,295.

Root cellar & canning

Preserves, jams and a cellar that keeps the harvest through winter.

Cook it

A fish-cleaning table turns fish into fillets, and a campfire grill cooks them, or venison, or rabbit.

08 · Hunting

A living herd with a game warden

The deer herd has ruts and seasons, and you'll need the right licence. Thirteen weapons, shot placement and blood trails. Gut, hang and butcher it yourself, or take it to the processor. Vacuum-seal what you don't eat.

Thirteen weapons

Rifles, a shotgun, revolvers, a pellet gun, a bow and a crossbow. Kneel to steady your aim, and the deer see you less.

Consequences, not lectures

No nagging about backstops. A township patrol car drives the road a few times a day and tickets reckless shooting it sees or hears.

More than deer

Rabbit, black bear, coyote and more share the woods with the herd.

09 · Fishing

The pond, the creek, and that catfish

Ten Pennsylvania species in the pond and creek. Cast, set the hook and reel. Cut a hole in the ice in winter. There's a junk museum for what else you pull up, messages in bottles, and a legendary catfish.

10 · Machines

Things with engines

The city car you arrive in drives, and it has a trunk for town runs. Then there's a truck with a 32-slot bed, a side-by-side UTV with a trailer, a tractor with 11 implements, an excavator, and rentals: stump grinder, mulcher, trencher, auger and boom truck.

Deliveries

Store orders arrive on pallets at the delivery area by the road. There's a dumpster there too; toss anything in and the hauler takes it at dawn.

Fuel

Park at a pump at the Fuel & Go and fill up, or carry a 5-gallon can.

Kessler's Mobile Repair

Flats, cracked glass, a shot-out engine: the mobile mechanic comes to you.

11 · The town

Hemlock Hollow, pop. your valley

Drive east on the county road past your driveway, about a quarter mile, and turn left at Main St. The town sits in the middle of the valley, so everyone in a valley shares it.

Walk-in shops

The Hollow General Store & Post Office, Dottie's Feed & Seed, Whitcomb Hardware, Ridgeline Gun & Tackle, Second Chance Furniture, Hollow Lumber & Equipment, the bank and the Fuel & Go.

Buy it in person

Same catalog as the phone Store, 5% cheaper, and you take it home today. Shops keep hours; the phone Store never closes.

The diner

Breakfast, lunch and supper as a sit-down meal, plus pie and coffee. Its name changes from valley to valley.

Sell your goods

Marge buys eggs, milk, produce, honey and preserves. Hank buys sawlogs, cabin logs and firewood, straight from your truck bed.

Around town

The town green and gazebo, the groundhog's knoll, Hollow Park fairground, the fire hall, church, school and water tower.

The phone

Messages, Store, Bank, Weather, Map, Camera, the Almanac and Settings, all on a phone in your pocket.

12 · The Hollow

Different in every valley

After your first winter, every valley gets its own Hollow, seeded from the valley itself. It decides which oddities exist, what everything's called, what each silly mixer does, where things hide and which nights strange things happen. Discoveries are announced to the whole valley. Phone → Almanac holds it all.

Oddities

A gnome who moves somewhere funnier every morning, Bigfoot and his favorite snack, a UFO that borrows a hen, a raccoon bandit, a moose Walt swears doesn't exist, golden acorns for the Squirrel King.

Secrets

A founder's buried time capsule, Walt's secret word (he yodels), a talking crow that repeats what the valley taught it, and ↑↑↓↓←→←→BA.

Mystery Mixers

Uncle Dale sells Moose Drool, Canned Goat Burps and Chicken Sneeze Powder. Mix them into syrup, honey or jam at the Mixin' Bench. Recipes differ per valley.

Every year

Groundhog Day, the Maple Festival, the County Fair in August, Fourth of July and New Year fireworks, Halloween, snowmen and Christmas gifts.

The long game

A monthly Homestead Rating from City Slicker to Walt-Level, your reputation up to Honorary Mayor, a Trophy Case and a new Almanac challenge every month.

Curios

Twenty curios turn up while you fell, split, dig and till. Sell them at the Oddity Emporium or fill in the Almanac's Collections page.

13 · Multiplayer

A valley of neighbors

Enter a name, then start your own valley or join someone else's from the list of who's online. Visit a neighbor's homestead from your phone, or work on a friend's homestead live with them.

Co-op homesteads

Tap Join on a friend's row and they tap Let them in. Whatever you fell, build, plant, feed or haul lands in their save. Your money, body, pack, guns and licences stay yours.

The owner runs the clock

The homestead's owner keeps time and can remove helpers. When you leave, you go home with what you earned.

Chat & Ask Walt

Press T to talk to the valley. "Ask Walt anything" works in multiplayer.

Hollow Market

Sell to other players and get paid while you're away.

Gifts & pranks

Rubber chickens, goat-o-grams and glitter, delivered even when your friend is offline.

Valley projects

A weekly project everyone chips into, pinned on the General Store's corkboard, plus valley records to beat.

14 · Walt's school

Thirteen lessons on the back forty

The last setup step offers Walt's training ground, a small game of its own that never touches your homesteads. Each lesson shows what to do and how with your device's controls, and a glowing marker shows where. Steps finish when the game sees you do them.

A firewood lesson: step card, a glowing marker over the practice tree, and Walt nearbyIn-game screenshot
The chickens lesson: a gold light column over the feed, the coop and hens, and a crow saying "CAW."In-game screenshot
The title screen: the game's name over a clearing in the hollowIn-game screenshot

What you'll learn

Getting around and the phone, buying tools, firewood, building a smokehouse from plans, the greenhouse, chickens, fishing, hunting and keeping meat.

Never blocked

Skip any step. Many offer "Do it for me". At the school, orders arrive in minutes and the pond is stocked.

Graduation

Take your money, pack, tools, guns, licences and the food you put up to a brand-new homestead, and keep Walt as your guide there if you like.

15 · While you're away

The homestead keeps going

Close the tab and life goes on: up to one game day while you're gone, ending on a fresh 7 AM. Only good things happen while you're away: eggs, growth, sap, drying, crews building, deliveries arriving. Walt covers the chores, so nothing dies, rots, freezes or gets fined.

While you were away

A card sums up what happened. Before you go, the Save & quit screen shows what's coming next.

The Daily Hollow

A small challenge each real day, the same for everyone in a valley, and real-calendar weekend events like an October pumpkin hunt. No streaks to lose.

Texts from Walt

An opt-in phone notification when something's ready, at most one a day, and never a guilt trip.
